Where is Minca, and how to arrive?

Minca is located in the department of Magdalena, which is the same as Santa Marta.

To reach Minca from anywhere in Colombia, you will need to arrive at Santa Marta by plane. From the Simón Bolivar International Airport in Santa Marta, you can take a one-hour taxi ride to reach the town of Minca.

Once arrive in Minca town, you can take a moto that will drop you off at the hotel of your choice.

Day 1: Arrival and Exploration

Morning: Arrival in Minca

  1. Arrival in Santa Marta: Start your journey by arriving in Santa Marta, which is the nearest major city to Minca. From Santa Marta, you can easily reach Minca by taking a short taxi ride or a shared minivan.
  2. Check-in to Accommodation: Upon arriving in Minca, check in to your chosen accommodation.

Afternoon: Discover Minca Town

  1. Lunch in Minca: Explore the center of Minca and enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants or cafes. You can savor traditional Colombian dishes while taking in the tranquil atmosphere.
  2. Coffee Farm Tour: Minca is known for its coffee production. In the afternoon, consider taking a coffee farm tour to learn about the coffee-making process and sample some freshly brewed Colombian coffee.

Evening: Relax and Unwind

  1. Dinner in the hotel: Enjoy a leisurely dinner at your hotel. You may find international and vegetarian options in addition to traditional Colombian cuisine.
  2. Yoga before bed: Minca's mountain location provides an excellent opportunity for yoga and meditation. If you're interested, bring a blanket and head to a quiet spot away from the village lights to admire the night sky.

Day 2: Nature and Waterfalls

Morning: Jungle Trekking

  1. Breakfast: Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel that normally is included.
  2. La Victoria Coffee Farm: Take a guided jungle trek to La Victoria Coffee Farm. This walk through the lush forest offers scenic views and a chance to learn more about coffee cultivation and sustainable farming practices.

Afternoon: Waterfall Adventures

  1. Marinka Waterfall: After the coffee farm visit, continue your trek to Marinka Waterfall. Cool off with a refreshing swim in the natural pool beneath the falls. Don't forget to bring your swimwear and a towel.
  2. Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch by the waterfall or head back to Minca for a meal at a local restaurant.

Evening: Free Time in Minca

  1. Relaxation: Spend your evening relaxing at your accommodation or exploring Minca's small but charming town center. You can visit local artisan shops and perhaps try some craft beers or artisanal chocolate.

Day 3: Bird Watching and Departure

Morning: Bird Watching

  1. Bird Watching: Minca is a paradise for bird watchers. Start your day early with a bird-watching tour to spot some of the 300 bird species found in the area. Keep an eye out for colorful toucans and parrots.
  2. Breakfast: Return to your hotel for breakfast.

Afternoon: Departure

  1. Check-out: Check out and say farewell to Minca.
  2. Return to Santa Marta: Arrange transportation back to Santa Marta to continue your journey or catch your departing flight.

Our advice:

  • Don’t stay at the village, go to a nice hotel (best choice is Mundo Nuevo), it’s 15 min of Moto Taxi from the center of the village!
  • We recommend that you stay no more than 2 nights to avoid potential boredom.
